Frank Parlow (born April 22, 1967 in Osnabrück ) is a German physicist and former regatta sailor in the Kiel Yacht Club and in the North German Regatta Club Hamburg .

Life

Bowman Frank Parlow sailed from 1989 to 1996 on international regattas in the Olympic catamaran class Tornado , together with helmsman Roland Gäbler . The Osnabrück physics student therefore moved from the University of Osnabrück to the University of Kiel in order to be able to use the training opportunities in the Kiel Fjord regularly and intensively.

In 1989, 1990 and 1995, the Gäbler / Parlow team became German champions in the tornado class. In 1994 the second place was achieved in a German championship. In the first year of the cooperation, a third place at the European sailing championships in 1989 was achieved.

The Gäbler / Parlow team was able to win the title of European champion four times (EM 1991, EM 1993, EM 1994 in Cagliari and EM 1995 in Kiel ) and in 1996 in Brisbane the world championship in the tornado class. In 1995 the team was able to finish the regatta season as second in the world rankings.

Olympic rings

Roland Gäbler and Frank Parlow also started in the tornado class at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and took eleventh place, and seventh place at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta .

At the international sailing competitions of the ' Kiel Weeks ' in 1994 and 1996, the two regatta sailors in the Tornado / Catamaran boat class (length 6.10 m - width 3.05 m - sail area 21.80 m 2 ) were both winners in this class.

After the two German tornado sailors were unable to achieve a medal rank at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Savannah River sailing area , they were considered favorites and the helmsman and crew parted ways. The graduate physicist Frank Parlow has since concentrated on professional goals outside of sailing regattas. He is married and has two children.
