A Danish X-99

The X-99 is a sailing yacht from the Danish manufacturer X-Yachts . The X-99 was recognized as an international class by the World Sailing Association ISAF until 2010.

history

The X-99 was drawn by Niels Jeppesen and manufactured by X-Yachts in Hadersleben / Denmark. It came on the market in 1985 and was built a total of 605 times by 2004. As with the older X-79 , the mast of the X-99 can also be trimmed lengthways using backstays .

The original wooden frame was replaced by a steel frame in 1991. From construction number 260 on (except for 270, 263, 267) all X-99s received this steel frame.

Aluminum windows were introduced in 1991 (MK I) from construction number 288 (except 290 and 310). At the same time, the previously installed 10 HP Bukh diesel engine was replaced by a unit from Volvo . In 1996 the new version of the X-99 called "MK II" was presented with the construction number 500. This differs from the series produced up to then in small changes, such as two deck windows on each side, a needle bearing on the rudder and a modified water pass design.

World Championship

From 1997 to November 2010 the X-99 was a recognized unit class of the International Sailing Federation .
