The X-79, the shipyard's first model
The X-99, one of the shipyard's most famous models

X-Yachts is a Danish yacht builder. She specializes in sailing yachts for regattas and sporty sailing.

history

X-Yachts was founded by the brothers Niels and Lars Jeppesen together with Birger Hansen in Haderslev , Denmark. About 5,000 boats have been built since then. Their first model was the 26-foot X-79 , which caused quite a stir in the regatta scene . It was first delivered in May 1979. Right from the start she won the world's largest regatta, the Sjælland Rundt , in which almost 2,100 yachts took part.

In 1981 the X-102 was developed under the 3/4 ton rule . The X-102 won the three-quarter-ton races in Finland (1981) and Spain (1982). A "sport" version of the X-102 won other important regattas in the following years.

In the course of the 1980s, X-Yachts built various designs according to barrel and IOR rules . The young shipyard won the One Ton Cup in 1986 in Spain ( Andelsbanken ) and in 1990 in Sweden ( Okyalos ).

Another major milestone was the X-99 , designed in 1985 , which was recognized as an ISAF one design boat. 605 of them were built.

From 1990 onwards, in addition to pure racing boats, so-called performance cruisers were also developed, boats suitable for long journeys that can be sailed quickly and sportily. The first models were the X-412 and X-382.

The X-35 , which was launched for the first time in 2005, was a boat conceived as a One Design from the start . The X-41 followed later as a one-design construction.

The performance cruising yacht X-55 , which was introduced in 2007, was voted European Yacht of the Year .

X-Yachts today

Today X-Yachts has three major model lines: Xracing-One-Designs (X-35 and X-41), four Xcruising models (Xc 38, Xc 42, Xc 45, Xc 50), and Xperformance, the newest line from Cruising - Racing yachts (Xp 33, Xp 38, Xp 44, Xp 50, Xp 55, X-65).

X-Yachts has been based in Haderslev in Denmark since the beginning . There are also offices and representations in many countries around the world, but mainly in Europe.

In 2012 the company had a turnover of 250 million Danish kroner (around € 33 million) and employed a total of 250 people. Since 2012, 51% of the company shares have been owned by the Danish holding company Consolidated Holdings . Hans Viggard is CEO. Niels and Lars Jeppesen are still involved in the company and are responsible for design and production. Nils Jeppesen is responsible for the yachts' designs. Birger Hansen also holds shares.
