Seven-eight rigging

Seven-eight rigging ( Bavaria 40 )

Seven- eight rigging (also 7/8 rigging ) is a term used in sailing shipbuilding .

If the forestay of a slup-rigged sailing yacht is up to about 7/8 of the height of the mast , this type of rigging is called seven-eighth rigging . The advantage of the seven-eight rigging compared to the top rigging is that the mast is not so strongly fixed and is therefore more flexible in the longitudinal direction of the ship. The greater flexibility of the mast can be used to trim (to change the profile) of the main sail .
