Top rigged sailing yacht ( Varianta 65 )

Top rigging is a term used in sailing ship building.

If the forestay of a slup-rigged sailing yacht leads to the top of the mast (top of the ship's mast ), this type of rigging is called top rigging. The advantages over fractional rigging, such as seven-eight rigging, are that larger foresail areas can be used and a second forestay is possible ( cutter rigging ). The disadvantage is that the mast cannot be trimmed so easily beyond the backstay .
