The MoveForwardProject was an international student initiative that was founded in March 2013 by an association of former and active student representatives in Germany and existed until December 2013. The aim of the initiative was to promote and improve the education system and the school environment on the African continent. In order to achieve this goal, the MoveForwardProject launched a global fundraising campaign to financially support the pioneering work of the organization Model Schools for Africa / Institute for Intercultural and Innovative Learning .

The aim of this institute, which was founded by the former federal coordinator of the German UNESCO project schools , Karl-Heinz Köhler, is to set up model schools on the African continent that combine European and African educational concepts in order to create an intercultural dialogue at eye level, which is a teaching model strives for modern and humane methodologies. The work of the organization is largely financed by donations and the German UNESCO Commission , which acts as patron.

The MoveForwardProject was originally started as an intercultural student representation project for a single German school, but has developed into an independent initiative with a team of more than 50 students worldwide. The head of the initiative was the project management, consisting of various student representatives from Germany and Austria. With the support of consultants, international school groups carried out fundraising activities in 10 countries. The participating countries included Germany , Austria , Switzerland , Belgium , France , Norway , South Korea , New Zealand , Canada and Tanzania . Over the entire project period, the project was supervised, designed, organized and carried out by students. Working people and students only supported the project temporarily in an advisory capacity.

Project work

The work of the MoveForwardProject lasted from March 2013 to December 2013. The aim of the fundraising campaign was to collect at least € 10,000 in donations for model schools for Africa / Institute for intercultural and innovative learning within nine months. Through the participation of schools in Germany, Austria and New Zealand, street fundraisings in South Korea, benefit concerts and charity sales campaigns worldwide, a donation level of 15,300 € was recorded in December 2013, which was passed on to the organization to be supported without any deductions. In addition, a delegation from the project management traveled to the first school established by model schools for Africa / Institute for Intercultural and Innovative Learning, the One World Secondary School Kilimanjaro in Tanzania . There the project team got an idea of ​​the donation recipient's development cooperation, made a 40-minute documentary film and supported the school management in organizing the first Euro-African youth academy, which was held for the first time at the end of September 2013 as part of the intercultural school program at the One World Secondary School took place.

The MoveForwardProject was supported by organizations, banks, private individuals and schools from the participating countries. The German Minister of Health Hermann Gröhe , the Tanzanian UNESCO Secretary General Elizabeth Kiondo and the German-Ethiopian management consultant Asfa-Wossen Asserate have been won as patrons .

effect

After the work of the MoveForwardProject was finished in December 2013, the main actors of the initiative got together again in mid-2014 and founded the official successor organization, called Mavericks Foundation eV, on January 18, 2015, a young non-profit organization that is involved in development cooperation is working.
