The Movimento Repubblicani Europei ( Movement of European Republicans ) was a small liberal party in Italy . It split off from the traditional PRI in 2001 because it had joined the electoral alliance Casa delle Libertà around Silvio Berlusconi . As a center-left party, the Movimento Repubblicani Europei belonged to the left-wing electoral alliances L'Ulivo and L'Unione .

The party saw its historical roots in the work of famous Italian democratic republicans such as Giuseppe Mazzini and Ugo La Malfa .

The party's leader, Luciana Sbarbati , was elected to the European Parliament in 2004 as the only representative of her party .

On October 14, 2007, the party went with the Democratici di Sinistra , the Christian Democrats of La Margherita and six other groups of the center-left camp in the Democratic Party ( Partito Democratico ).
