Moving wall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Moving Wall (German: moving wall) is in scientific publishing a period of time refers to the availability of content on the Internet. JSTOR defined the moving wall as the period between the most recent magazine issue in its database and the most recently published issue. Usually the time interval, also known as an embargo (in the sense of a blocking period ), is given in years. It is intended to protect publishers from losses by giving them an unrivaled initial evaluation online or in print.

Originally related to scientific journals ( Delayed Open Access ), the term can also be applied to other products such as book series or digitized copies, the accessibility of which changes after a fixed period of time.

The moving wall can refer both to being fed into a (chargeable) database and to being released under Open Access .
