Andréa Maechler

Andréa M. Maechler (* 1969 in Geneva ) is a Swiss economist .

Career

After completing school in western Switzerland, Maechler studied at the University of Toronto , at the Institut de hautes études internationales in Geneva, at the Institut de hautes études en administration publique in Lausanne and at the University of California, Santa Cruz , where she earned her doctorate in international economics in 2000.

Her professional positions include the Organization for Economic Cooperation (OECD), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Maechler was deputy head of the secretariat in the European Systemic Risk Committee in Frankfurt from 2013 to 2014. Andréa Maechler was Deputy Head of Global Markets Analysis at the International Monetary Fund in Washington. The tasks of this division include monitoring the capital markets and assessing systemic risks.

On December 17, 2014, Maechler was elected by the Federal Council as the first woman to join the board of directors of the Swiss National Bank (SNB). She succeeded Jean-Pierre Danthine on July 1, 2015 for the term of office July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2021 . She took over the 3rd department on the board of directors of the National Bank, the majority of which is based in Zurich. This department of the SNB covers the financial markets and foreign exchange trading, the operational banking business and IT.

She is the author of several specialist publications.

Andréa Maechler is married and has two children.
