Jean-Pierre Danthine

Jean-Pierre Danthine (born May 16, 1950 in Havelange , Belgium ) is a Swiss- Belgian economist . From 2010 to 2015 he was a member of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank , and from April 2012 Vice President.

Life

Danthine studied economics at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium and obtained a Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh . He then held research and teaching positions at various universities, including Columbia University in New York , the University of Southern California in Los Angeles , the University of Laval in Québec and the University of Aix-Marseille in France.

From 1980 to 2009 Danthine was a full professor of macroeconomics and financial theory at the HEC Faculty of Economics at the University of Lausanne . From 1996 to 2005 he was Managing Director of the International Center for Financial Asset Management and Engineering (FAME) in Geneva . He then took over the management of the newly founded Swiss Finance Institute until 2009. Danthine was a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London . In addition, he published numerous texts, studies and publications.

In April 2009, Danthine was elected by the Federal Council as a member of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank at the beginning of 2010. He took over the management of the III. Departments in Zurich , which includes the areas of money market and foreign exchange trading , asset management , risk management , operational banking and IT . On April 18, 2012, he was appointed Vice President of the Governing Board by the Federal Council. He took over the management of Department II in Bern and was responsible for the areas of financial stability, cash , as well as finances and risks at the National Bank. At the end of June 2015, he resigned after reaching normal retirement age and at the end of the 2009–2015 term of office. He was followed by Andréa M. Maechler .

He has been a full member of the Academia Europaea since 1992 .

Jean-Pierre Danthine is married and has two children.
