The French pilot , war hero in World War II , politician, racing car driver and racing car designer André Moynet designed the aircraft from 1957. The specialist press reported on the planning in 1961.

In June 1963, Matra presented the four to five-seat GAP-Matra M-360 Jupiter at the Paris Aviation Salon in Le Bourget, and on December 17, 1963 Andre Moynet and Lucien Tieles carried out the maiden flight. A six- to seven-seat second prototype, equipped with more powerful 290-hp Lycoming IO-540 engines, flew for the first time on May 23, 1965.
