The Mrs Macquarie's Chair (incorrectly sometimes called Lady Macquarie's Chair ) is a bench carved into a rock in Sydney , Australia . The freestanding sandstone rocks were worked by inmates for Elizabeth Macquarie in 1810. It is located on a peninsula on Sydney Harbor at the end of Mrs Macquaries Road near the Royal Botanic Gardens . The peninsula is called Mrs. Macquaries Point .

Elizabeth Macquarie was the wife of Lachlan Macquarie , who was Governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1821 . It is reported that she often sat on the rock, enjoying the view of the harbor, while watching the ships come in.

The inscription on the stone reads:

“BE IT THUS RECORDED THAT THE ROAD
Round the inside of the Government Domain Called
M rs. MACQUAIRIE ROAD
So named by the Governor on account of her having Originally
Planned it MeasuRing 3 Miles, and 377 Yards
Was finally Completed on the 13 th Day of June 1816 ”

"It should be noted that the road around the interior of the government area, called Mrs. Macquairie Road, was named after her by the governor, which according to the report originally planned it to be 3 miles and 377 yards long, finally on the 13th day of the June 1816 was completed. "

The land island is located between the Garden Island Peninsula and Woolloomooloo Bay to the east and Bennelong Point (where the Sydney Opera House is) to the west. From Mrs Macquarie's Chair oriented towards the northeast to Fort Denison . The area around Mrs Macquaries Point is a well-known vantage point with views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge .
