The Mt. Pleasant School is a former Einklassenschule and present church near Gerrardstown , Berkeley County , West Virginia . It was built in 1897 for African American children. Its use as a school ended in 1939. Since 1942 the building has served as a church called Mt. Olive Methodist Church .
The building is about 8 m wide and 13 m long. The exterior is made of local limestone rubble . It is built into the slope of the hill and has a raised porch. The building is located in the southwest quadrant of the county and is approximately three miles from the Virginia border.
In 2008 Mt. Pleasant School was added to the National Register of Historic Places .
The company Continental Brick slate is to be mined near the school's location . The approval for this was given by the state of West Virginia despite strong protests from the population against the associated air and water pollution in 2012.
