Muhamet Alem Kabashi (born January 10, 1894 in Vlora ; † between 1943 and 1945 in Mauthausen concentration camp ) was an Albanian resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Muhamet Alem Kabashi grew up in what is now the partisan district of Vlora, where he also completed his training. He ran a small business there. Known as a patriot , he was already committed to the declaration of independence on November 28, 1912 at the age of 18 . He also fought in the war of liberation against the Italian occupiers in 1920 and took part in the liberal-democratic revolution in 1924.

Even after the Italian occupation by fascist forces, he remained active in the resistance. Among other things, he helped Jewish families. He was therefore classified as "very dangerous" by the fascist authorities. They destroyed his business and persecuted him and his family. In 1943 they arrested him in Porto Palermo , but managed to escape. In August 1943 he was arrested again and deported to Mauthausen concentration camp , where he was presumably murdered.

On July 7, 1973, he was posthumously proposed by his home parish as a “martyr of the fatherland”. However, he did not receive this award until October 19, 2002.
