Muhammad Dahlan (politician)

KH Muhammad Dahlan (born June 2, 1909 in Desa Mandaran Rejo, Pasuruan, Jawa Timur , Dutch East Indies , † February 1, 1977 in Jakarta ) was an Indonesian politician of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).

Life

Dahlan completed his school education in Siwalanpanji and Temuireng. On October 17, 1967, he became Minister of Religious Affairs (Menteri Urusan Agama) in General Suharto's second interim government . In the subsequent first presidential government of President Suharto (Pembangunan I) he acted from June 6, 1968 until his replacement by Mukti Ali on September 9, 1971 as minister of religion (Menteri Agama) . During his tenure as minister of religion, he introduced the Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran Islamic Religious Festival , which has been held since 1968.

Muhammad Dahlan was married to the freedom fighter and politician Aisyah Dahlan .
