The mujannah opening, also known as the mujannah gambit , more rarely called the storm opening , is a rarely played opening in the game of chess .
Position and variants
A number of variants are derived from the basic position, which were also used from time to time. The opening was occasionally played by Staunton in the 19th century. In the English opening he developed, there is also the move c2 – c4 that is typical for the Mujannah opening . Nimzowitsch also played this opening every now and then at the beginning of the 20th century. Heuäcker was confronted with a variant of the Mujannah opening at a tournament in Frankfurt am Main in 1936 . The opening is hardly played at all. The move f2 – f4 characteristic of the Mujannah opening can be found in the Bird opening .

The opening dates back to the Tabija positions in the Persian chess game in the 10th century. These were sometimes very complex opening positions of up to 20 moves. The Mashaikhi ("Sheikh opening") and the "Mujannah" ("The winged one" or "Flank opening"), as shown here, were very widespread .
The sequence of moves was incidentally uninteresting. The aim was to achieve a certain structure with the figures. When both players played the mujannah opening, it was referred to as a "double mujannah," which resulted in a symmetrical lineup on the board. However, a combination with another opening was also possible. The combination of mujannah and mashaikhi openings was called "mujannah mashaikhi" and resulted in an asymmetrical arrangement of the figures.
