Mucosal melanoma

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mucosal melanoma (or mucosal melanoma) is a special form of melanoma . Compared to melanoma, they have a significantly worse prognosis. Mucosal melanomas occur in the head and neck area (55%), anorectal (24%), vulvovaginal (18%) and urinary tract (3%). Due to their histopathological and clinical characteristics, melanomas of the vulva and vagina are often counted as a separate subtype. The prognosis for vulvovaginal melanoma is poor and has not improved over the past few decades.
