Muku was a Lower Saxony , regional ice cream brand that was produced from 1949 to 1992 in the Marienburg domain .

history

From 1913 on, Carl Graf leased the Marienburg domain and cultivated it into a farm. His son, Helmut Graf, set up a canning and ice cream factory there in 1949. In the same year he started producing ice cream under the MUKU brand.

The first production included an "Eis am Stiel", a milk ice cream wrapped in tinfoil paper with a retail price of 20 pfennigs. It was available in the flavors of vanilla and chocolate. Products like a croissant with ice cream and chocolate sprinkles followed; an orange fruit ice cream "Rocky"; “Afrikaner”, a creamy vanilla ice cream in chocolate and an ice cream in a “Twist” mug. In the 1970s, the "Slop" followed, an ice cream in a funnel-shaped cup with a chewing gum ball at the lower end .

In 1974 he founded the company MUKU-Eiskrem Helmut Graf & Co. with his sons Helmut and Thomas. By 1992 MUKU had considerable growth and production rose to several million liters. The products have won several DLG awards and were sold under their own name until 1988. In 1992 the ice cream factory was closed and sold to Schöller -Lebensmittel. Helmut Graf sen. died in 2001.

Documents from the MUKU ice cream factory are archived in the Hildesheim City Archives and in the Federal Archives under Order 356-2 .
