Multi-moment exposer

The multi-moment exponator (MME) is a camera for multiple partial exposure of sheet film . It was designed and built in 1999 by Schlomographische Aktion Berlin .

construction

The device is set up for the film format 9 × 12 cm. The 30 × 40 cm large image space manipulator made of aluminum is the carrier for the slotted slide valve visible above and on the right and the Voigtlander Bergheil camera. On the back there is an international back for sheet film cassettes (Plaubel).

The Voigtlander camera throws the resulting image through the image space manipulator, in which two slotted sliders are located. Each slider made of light-tight plastic has a recess that allows the light to reach the film only through a narrow slit about 1 cm wide. Since the slits of the slide are at right angles to each other, only a small square (approx. 1 cm × 1 cm) of the 9 × 12 cm image is exposed. The parts of the image to be exposed can be precisely selected using the rulers attached to the slides.

Recording options

The currently available slotted slides offer the following mounting options:

  • Exposure of the entire negative in one shot (without slider),
  • Strip exposure in up to 9 steps (only with vertical slide: 9 steps; only with horizontal slide: 7 steps)
  • Exposure in the coordinate system in 63 steps (both sliders: 9 × 7 steps).

practice

The exposure according to the coordinate system was used most often by the Schlomographs. To operate the device, two people are required who have to work on command so that no work step is missed:

  1. Open shutter , fade in,
  2. by focusing screen focus,
  3. Select horizontal and vertical coordinate field,
  4. Open the shutter and set the f-number / shutter speed ,
  5. Insert film cassette,
  6. Pull out the cassette slide,
  7. expose.

With successive partial exposures according to the coordinate system, up to 63 individual exposures are necessary to expose a negative (9 × 12 cm).

The result is a checkerboard photo.
