The Muna-Buton languages form a branch of the Malayo-Polynesian languages within the Austronesian languages . The group of closely related languages is spoken on the islands of Buton and Muna in southeast Sulawesi .
Individual languages are (classification according to Ethnologue 16/17):
- Kern Muna-Buton
- Tukangbesi – Bonerate : Tukangbesi (Popalia), Bonerate
Busoa and Kaimbulawa are not further classified.
