History
The current state of the dialect distribution in Oberbergischen results from the translation of two example sentences:
Sentence 1: We boil water in the kettle and eat with a spoon.
Sentence 2: In our village we have to eat the eggs without salt and pepper.
This is how the five basic dialect forms result:
- “Fie kakend Water em Kietel unn eaten met m Liepel. In unzum Duarpe she thinks the eggs without a room and peaper eaten. "
- “Fi koaken water in dämm Kietel unnoticed mät dämm Liepel. In our Doarpe they mucked the eggs without salt and peppers. "
- “Fi kooken Waater en the Kettel un orten met the Läfel. In our village they muck the eggs or salt or pepper. "
- "Mr boil water in the kettle on ate with the spoon. In our doorp we have to eat more eggs or salt on pepper. "
- “I boil water in a cheese on a cheese me'm Lääfel. In uffem Hof (Doorp) I have to eat mer de eggs without salt on pepper. "
In the area of the Oberbergischen Kreis one finds parts of five dialect areas:
Example 1:
Westphalian characteristics; the majority of the object form ends in t, the accentuated sounds are stretched into twos. In Belmicke, Attenbach, Piene, Bracht, Börlinghausen, Holzwipper, the Westphalian crosses the district boundaries into our area.
Example 2:
2. + 3. are without a High German sound shift , i.e. Lower Franconian . However, in example 2 shows Westphalian twilight and therefore belongs to a transitional area. This area includes Lieberhausen and Bergneustadt and thus reflects the close ties between the Bergneustadt office and Grafschaft Mark.
Example 3:
without Zwielauten, the actual Lower Franconian area of the former Gimborn rule.
Example 4:
Ripuarian - The sound shift has been carried out; only p is retained after -r and -l. Ripuarian includes the old Homburg region , including Ründeroth and Gummersbach south of the dialect border with Low German, as well as the areas of Brüchermühle, Eckenhagen, Denklingen, Wildbergerhütte, Waldbröl and the western (Protestant) Morsbach.
Example 5:
with shift -p- to r and l has a Moselle-Franconian character. It is the type of dialect from the (eastern, catholic) Morsbach and a consequence of the earlier closer contact between this area and the land of Sieg.
