Murat Çakır

Murat Çakır (* 1960 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish- German politician and was press spokesman and board member of WASG until spring 2006 . He switched to a permanent position at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation .

Life

Murat Çakır has lived in Germany since 1970. He is married and works as a freelance translator. He began his political career as a WASG member in the State Association of Hesse .

He then became federal chairman of the Federation of Immigrant Associations from Turkey (GDF) and federal chairman of the German Advisory Council for Foreigners .

Until 2000 he was a volunteer member of the Federal Advisory Board for Foreigners. Since January 22, 2005, he has been a member of the founding board of the WASG. In the mayor election on March 5, 2017 in Kassel , he will run as the top candidate for the party Die Linke .
