Murgondola lift

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Murgondelbahn is planning An in- circulating cable car project , which as a fourth system of public transport in Graz to act.

The gondola was supposed to cross Graz along the Mur from the Weinzödlbrücke to Puntigam and on to Graz Airport . The CEO of Holding Graz , the infrastructure service company that carries out the planning, Wolfgang Malik, also hopes that the cable car will be used for tourism. After criticism of the costs of the project, among other things, the plans were discontinued in 2011.

In 2013, the mayor of Graz, Siegfried Nagl, again proposed the construction of the cable car plus a few side branches to the Reininghaus grounds and Graz main train station . Holding Graz board member Malik supports the project, since according to his statements a cable car can transport 4,000 people per hour, whereas a tram can only transport 1,500. However, these figures are doubted by the local political opposition. Criticism came from the interest groups Fahrgast Steiermark and Pro Bim Graz , who pointed out that the Murgondelbahn, in contrast to the realization of the southwest axis of the Graz tram , which mayor Nagl dragged by sticking to the planning of the gondola, had no influence on the traffic flows in Graz and is more complex to operate than a tram. Pro Bim Graz considers the transport performance of a tram line in Graz of 12,000 people per hour and direction by installing additional modules in the existing vehicles to be easily and comparatively inexpensive to achieve.

In a newspaper article published on August 9, 2017, Mayor Nagl speaks of wanting to resume planning for the Murgondel and a line from Eggenberg or Gösting to Thal.
