European beer museum

The European Beer Museum ( French Musée Européen de la Bière ) in Stenay ( Lorraine ) deals with the technology and history of beer brewing . It opened on April 26, 1986 and has around 48,000 exhibits, including a number of historic beer bottles and coasters .

The tour begins with imparting basic knowledge about beer and its components. The development of brewing from antiquity to industrial modernity is then shown. Another part of the permanent exhibition is devoted to beer bars and pubs over time - five brasseries are reproduced here. Since 2008 a section has been showing historical beer advertisements, mainly posters. The associated garden can also be visited. Various aromatic hops are grown here; it is the only hop garden in Lorraine. There is also a public library in the museum.

The museum is classified as a Musée de France . It is located in the Citadel of Stenay , built in 1542 and modernized in 1610 , a monument historique . Its former pantry was converted into a malt house in 1879 , which was used until 1914.
