Picasso Museum
The Musée Picasso is one of the most important museums in Paris . It is located in the Marais district in the Hôtel Salé in the 3rd arrondissement at 5 rue de Thorigny.
history
In the museum, which opened in 1985, there are around 300 works by the artist Pablo Picasso from all periods of his life, mainly paintings and sculptures . The museum holdings also include Picasso's former private art collection with paintings by, among others, Georges Braque , Paul Cézanne , Henri Matisse , Joan Miró , Amedeo Modigliani and Henri Rousseau . His heirs gave these exhibits to the French state in order to pay inheritance tax in this way . This became possible according to a law from 1968, according to some sources this law was passed - while Picasso was still alive - primarily with the aim of securing some works by the artist for the French state .
The Swiss sculptor and designer Diego Giacometti designed the interior of the museum in 1985. The furniture, the banisters, door fittings and ceiling lamps come from him. Diego Giacometti was unable to witness the opening of the museum.
From August 23, 2009, the exhibition center was closed for several years. The reason was renovation work in which the museum rooms were redesigned and adapted to the current safety standards. During the closure, the exhibits were moved to other museums around the world. The reopening took place on October 25, 2014.
