The Musée de la Bataille du 6 Août 1870 is a museum in Wœrth, Alsace, to commemorate the battle of the Franco-German War there .

exhibition

In August 1870, 43,000 French soldiers and 82,000 Prussians and their allies met near Wörth. The conflict (also known as Bataille de Reichshoffen in French ), which was victorious for the Prussians under the leadership of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm , opened the way for the allied troops to the Vosges. Finds from both parties from the battlefield form an essential part of the exhibition housed in the castle. This includes weapons, helmets and other uniform parts , tools and other equipment used in soldiers' life. Pictures, documents and a diorama with more than 4,000 tin figures illustrate how the battle came about and how it went.

Another part of the presentation is devoted to the reception of the events on the French and German sides. Soon after Alsace was incorporated into the German Empire, monuments to individual military units were erected on the battlefield. A brisk memorial tourism developed, which was reflected in travel guides, postcards and other memorabilia . They and paintings by the French painters Édouard Detaille and Georges Louis Hyon are also part of the exhibition.
