The Muscat Securities Market (MSM) ( Arabic سوق مسقط للأوراق المالية, DMG Sūq Masqaṭ li-l-aurāq al-māliyya ) is the only stock exchange in Oman . It was established by the royal decree (53/88) issued on June 21, 1988 by Qabus ibn Said to regulate and control the securities market in Oman and to build the financial infrastructure of the Sultanate of Oman.
The Royal Decree (80/98) of November 9, 1998, which enacted the new Capital Markets Act, provided for the establishment of two separate entities, an exchange , the Muscat Securities Market (MSM), on which all listed securities are traded, and the Capital Market Authority (CMA), which acts as a regulator . The stock exchange is financially and administratively independent of the supervisory authority, but is subject to its supervision. This restructuring was made necessary by the rapid growth of the market.
The exchange is a member of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges . The main index is the MSM-30 index. The MSM 30 index contains three sub-indices that represent the three sectors (banking & investment, industry & services and insurance). It is based in Ruwi in the Muscat Capital Area .
