Heringsdorf Shell Museum

The Shell Museum Heringsdorf lay on the beach promenade next to the pier of Heringsdorf on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom and showed around 3,000 exhibits . It was opened on August 18, 1990, making it the first private museum in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . From September 1995 it moved to the location on the beach promenade. Next to the exhibition there was a museum shop selling souvenirs . Most of the mussels , pearls , corals , snails and amber on display came from the Philippines and Thailand - including a giant clam 75 centimeters long and 95 kilograms heavy .
