Musculus constrictor pharyngis superior
origin
Pars pterygopharyngea (musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris):
- Hamulus pterygoideus ossis sphenoidalis

Pars buccopharyngea (musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris):
Raphe pterygomandibularis

Pars mylopharyngea (musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris):
- Linea mylohyoidea mandibulae

Pars glossopharyngea (musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris):
- M. transversus linguae

approach
Raphe pharyngis
function
Constriction of the pars nasalis pharyngis:

prevents penetration of the bolus of food into the nasal cavity during the act of swallowing

Innervation
Pharyngeal plexus :

Glossopharyngeal nerve (cranial nerve IX)
vagus nerve (cranial nerve X)

The musculus constrictor pharyngis superior (from Latin musculus "muscle", constringere "to contract", Greek phárynx "throat" and Latin superior "upper"), in German upper throat cord , is a square, striated muscle ( skeletal muscle ) which, together with the Musculi constrictores pharyngis medius et inferior , which form the muscular part of the throat . It is particularly prominent in its dorsal and lateral areas. On the dorsal wall of the pharynx, the paired muscle parts are connected to each other by the pharyngeal raphe , which also serves as an attachment for the throat constricters.

The muscle can be further divided into one:

  • Pars pterygopharyngea musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris
  • Pars buccopharyngea musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris
  • Pars mylopharyngea musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris
  • Pars glossopharyngea musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris

function

The musculus constrictor pharyngis superior closes the nasal section of the pharynx ( Pars nasalis pharyngis ) against the mouth section of the pharynx (Pars oralis pharyngis) by the muscle on the posterior pharyngeal wall raising the Passavant bulge . During the act of swallowing, the soft palate is pressed against the Passavant bulge and the bite is prevented from penetrating the nasal cavity.
