The mylohyoid muscle ( lat. For "jaw bone muscle ") is a skeletal muscle of the head and arises from the linea mylohyoidea (also: crista mylohyoidea ), a delicate bone ridge on the inside of the lower jaw . It attaches to the hyoid bone ( Os hyoideum ) and a raphe running from the spina mentalis to the hyoid bone.

The muscle is used to open the lower jaw and lift the hyoid bone. The muscle is also known as the " diaphragm of the lower jaw". The innervation takes place via the mylohyoid nerve .
