The obturator externus muscle ( Latin for "outer hip-hole muscle") is one of the hip muscles of the thigh . The former name obturatorius externus is still valid in animal anatomy .

In cloven-hoofed animals that lack the internal obturator muscle , the external obturator muscle also arises on the inside of the pelvis ( pars intrapelvina ).

function

The obturator (ius) externus muscle rotates the thigh outwards.
