Grete Reiner
Grete Reiner-Straschnow (born as Margarethe Stein December 7, 1891 in Prague ; died before March 9, 1944 in Auschwitz concentration camp ) was a German translator and editor .
Life
Grete Reiner is best known for her transfer of Schwejk from Jaroslav Hašek and Karel Vaněk, which was completed in 1926 . She also added several episodes of her own to this fragmentary book (1921–1923), which were published in German in 2004 in the Czech Library .
From 1936 she published the emigrant newspaper Deutsche Volkszeitung in Prague, which was later continued by Lenka Reinerová (who was not related to her).
She married Oskar Straschnow, with whom she had a child, Kurt (1911–1999). Her second marriage was to Karel Reiner (1897–1943, murdered in Auschwitz).
Dec 22 1942 Grete Reiner was by the German occupiers during the " final solution " to the collection camp in Terezin (Theresienstadt) deported and from here on 6 September 1943, after Auschwitz . If she had not fallen victim to the abuse earlier, Grete Reiner and the other people from the transport were gassed on the night of March 8th to 9th, 1944 .
