The musculus palmaris brevis ( Latin for "short palm muscle") is one of the muscles of the hand .

The palmaris brevis muscle is relatively functionless in humans and accordingly extremely small. It is involved in the tensioning of the palmar fascia , but is probably negligible in this function as well. Presumably, this muscle is in developmental decline in humans.
The muscle has a more relevant function in people who do not have a palmaris longus muscle . In this case, the muscle is more developed because it is now likely to be more important for tensioning the palmar fascia.

Palmaris brevis spasm syndrome is a rare disease .
