Museo dell'Arte e della Tornitura del Legno

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Museo dell'Arte e della Tornitura del Legno ( Museum of the art of woodturning ) is a museum of Pettenasco in the Italian Piedmont , dedicated to the local wood processing. It is housed in the former wood turning factory of the Maulini family, who produced there from 1886 to 1970.

The museum houses a permanent exhibition on the history of wood processing on Lake Orta and organizes special exhibitions and events. Together with several other museums in the area, it is part of the Ecomuseo del Lago d'Orta e Mottarone . The heart of the building is the former Maulinis workshop, some of which still contains furnishings and tools from the 19th century .

In Pettenasco in particular, a small wood processing industry emerged at the end of the 19th century. The Pescone torrent , which flows from the neighboring Mottarone in Pettenasco into Lake Orta, was diverted into a canal, the Roggia Molinara , where it has powered five water mills since the 18th century . After these were no longer needed for grinding, they provided the energy for the development of a small industry in the area.
