Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis
The Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis is an art museum in the Portuguese city of Porto .
It was founded in 1833 by King Peter IV as the Museu Portuense . In 1911 it was named after the sculptor António Soares dos Reis .
In 1940 it moved from its original location in the Convento de Santo António da Cidade to the Palácio dos Carrancas , where it was reopened in 1942 after renovations by Fernandes Sá .
The museum houses an extensive collection of Portuguese art from the 19th and 20th centuries, including works by painters such as Domingos Sequeira , Vieira Portuense , Augusto Roquemont , Miguel Ângelo Lupi , António Carvalho de Silva Porto , Marques de Oliveira , Henrique Pousão , Aurélia de Souza , Dordio Gomes , Júlio Resende and the sculptors Soares do Reis , Augusto Santo , António Teixeira Lopes and Rodolfo Pinto do Couto .
