Huanchaca is a town in the Potosí department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The village of Huanchaca is the only village in the canton of Huanchaca in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Uyuni in the province of Antonio Quijarro . The place is located at an altitude of 4067 m on a tributary of the episodically flowing Río Capillas, which flows south of the city of Uyuni into the salt lake Salar de Uyuni .

Huanchaca is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the western slope of the Cordillera de Chichas . The arid climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.
The annual average temperature of the region is 9 ° C (see climate diagram Uyuni), the monthly values fluctuate between 5 ° C in June / July and a good 11 ° C in the summer months from November to March. Huanchaca is 204 kilometers by road west of Potosí , the capital of the department.
From Potosí the highway Ruta 5 leads to the southwest via Porco , Chaquilla , Yura and Ticatica to Pulacayo and from there to Uyuni . In Pulacayo a dirt road branches off to the north, which reaches Huanchaca after 16 kilometers.

Due to the historically evolved population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Uyuni 43.4 percent of the population speak Quechua .
