The Municipio Uyuni (also: Thola Pampa ) is a district in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Uyuni is one of three municipalities in the Antonio Quijarro province . It is bordered to the north by the Oruro Department , on the west by the province of Nor Lípez , on the south by the province Sur Chichas , in the southeast of the province of Nor Chichas , on the east by the Tomave Municipality , and on the northeast by the Tomás Frías Province .

The central place of the district is the city of Uyuni with 18,068 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southwestern part of the municipality.

The municipality of Uyuni extends in a north-south direction over a length of 220 kilometers between the salt lake Salar de Uyuni in the west and the ridge of the Cordillera de Chichas in the east. The average width of the municipality is 30 to 50 kilometers.

The climate in the great salt steppe, the "Gran Pampa Salada", is a typical daytime climate in which the temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons. The annual average temperature of the region is 9 ° C (see climate diagram), the monthly values ​​fluctuate between 5 ° C in June / July and a good 11 ° C in the summer months from November to March.
