Cerdas is a town in the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Cerdas is a municipality in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Uyuni in the province of Antonio Quijarro . The village is located at an altitude of 3871  m on the eastern edge of the "Gran Pampa Pelada", a salt steppe that connects to the south of the Salar de Uyuni salt lake and covers an area of ​​approximately 10,000 km².

Cerdas is located on the southeastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano in front of the ridge of the Cordillera de Chichas , which has its highest elevation 30 kilometers east of Cerdas with the Cerro Chorolque (5614 m). The climate in the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.

Cerdas is located on the road and rail link from Uyuni to Tupiza , at a distance of 282 kilometers by road southwest of Potosí , the capital of the department.

From Potosí, the national highway Ruta 5 leads in a south-westerly direction over 208 kilometers to Uyuni. From there, the 197 kilometer long Ruta 21 leads via Cerdas and Atocha to Tupiza, where it meets Ruta 14 , which continues to Villazón on the border with Argentina .
