Location in the vicinity

The town of Chita is the second largest town in the canton of Chacala in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Uyuni in the province of Antonio Quijarro . The place is located at an altitude of 3759  m on the left, southern bank of the episodically flowing Río Khamaque, which flows 25 kilometers further west into the salt lake Salar de Uyuni .

geography

Chita is located on the Bolivian Altiplano in the great salt steppe , the "Gran Pampa Salada", between the Salar de Uyuni in the west and the Cordillera de Chichas in the east. The arid climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.

From Potosí, the Ruta 1 highway leads northwest via Tarapaya , Yocalla and Ventilla and after 203 kilometers reaches the town of Challapata . From here the route 30 leads south via Santiago de Huari , Sevaruyo and Río Mulato towards Uyuni at the salt lake of the same name Salar de Uyuni and after 159 kilometers reaches the town of Chita .

Chita is also the station of a railway line that runs from Oruro via Uyuni to Villazón on the Argentine border and offers a connection four times a week through the Empresa Ferroviaria Andina railway company .
