The canton Coroma is a municipality in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Cantón Coroma is one of five cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Uyuni in the province of Antonio Quijarro . It borders in the north and northwest on the Oruro department , in the west on the province of Nor Lípez , in the south on the canton Chacala , in the southeast on the municipality Tomave , and in the east on the province Tomás Frías .

The canton extends between approximately 19 ° 22 'and 20 ° 04' south latitude and 66 ° 17 'and 67 ° 15' west longitude. It measures up to 75 kilometers from north to south and up to 120 kilometers from west to east. In the northern part of the canton is the central place of the canton, Coroma , with 125 inhabitants. The canton of Coroma is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano between the Salar de Uyuni salt lake and the Cordillera Azanaques , which is part of the Cordillera Central mountain range . The climate is a typical time of day climate in which the daily temperature fluctuations are greater than the fluctuations between the seasons.

In March 2012, border disputes escalated between Coroma and the neighboring municipality of Santuario de Quillacas in the Oruro department. In violent clashes between the two divided border communities there were 25 injured and two seriously injured, in Oruro the regional trade union federation COD and around 500 miners accused the government in La Paz of inactivity, and in the departmental capital Potosí Because of the protests there, all public life stood still for 24 hours.
