Willy Knupp

Willy Knupp (* 19th October 1936 ; † 10. November 2006 in Cologne ) was a German Motorsport - journalist .

Live and act

Knupp began his journalistic career in 1971 at RTL Radio in Luxembourg . With the start of private television in Germany in 1985, he moved to the sports department of the TV station RTL plus . Here he played a key role in positioning the broadcaster for Formula 1 broadcasts and was a commentator himself for many years, most recently in 1992.

He also worked as a book author and editor of a good two dozen racing books. He has published several books about Michael Schumacher , with whom he was also good friends.

Knupp was married to the television presenter Biggi Lechtermann . Their daughter is called Lisann.

After a long and serious illness, he died of cancer three weeks after his 70th birthday in a Cologne clinic.
