The folk museum

The Museum Eisenheim is a branch of the LVR-Industriemuseum Oberhausen . It is located in the historic Eisenheim workers 'settlement , one of the oldest workers' settlements in the Ruhr area.

In 1970 the workers' settlement in Eisenheim was threatened with demolition. A citizens' initiative was then formed, which stubbornly protested. They achieved that the settlement was finally placed under monument protection. Then the people of Eisenheim founded a folk museum in one of the three former wash houses , in which they collected furniture, everyday objects and pictures.

The social history museum was taken over in 1989 by the Rhineland Regional Council for the LVR industrial museum . In 1996 the permanent exhibition became Eisenheim. Foundation, expansion, decline and new beginning of the oldest workers' settlement in the Ruhr area opened, which deals with the history of the settlement. In 1999 a museum apartment was set up in one of the workers' houses. There numerous photos and documents complement the permanent exhibition.

The museum is open on Sundays and public holidays from Easter Sunday to the end of October. Group tours take place all year round.
