The Flore in Lorient

The Museum Le sous-marin Flore is a museum opened in 2010 about the French submarine Flore (S645) of the Daphné class . It is located in the submarine bunker in Lorient . The museum is maintained jointly by the Sellor company and the Lorient Agglomération municipal association . The museum is housed in one of the submarine bunkers in Lorient (Keroman III), which was commissioned by German troops during the Second World War to protect German submarines in the Atlantic ( Atlantic Battle ).

The museum is initially dedicated to the history of the port city of Lorient from the Middle Ages to the restructuring of the submarine base, which has been ongoing since 1997 with the withdrawal of the submarines of the French Navy. Life on board a submarine is presented below. Furthermore, a film consisting of modern illustrations and prepared archive images illustrates the importance of the submarine fleets in the Second World War and during the Cold War . A changing exhibition completes the museum part of the tour. Finally, the visitor can visit the interior of the submarine Flore .
