Mushandike

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mushandike is a protected area on the Mushandike Dam 25 km from Masvingo on the road west to Bulawayo in Zimbabwe .

Although there are some animals to be seen in Mushandike, the reservoir is currently a topic in a completely different respect, namely under the question: How do you get schistosomiasis infections under control in small reservoirs and small irrigation systems ? The host animal of the pathogen, a water snail, spreads rapidly in the shallow waters of the lake and open ditch systems. Children bathe in both and women draw water from both for the household. Furthermore, the water here is increasingly enriched with residues of pesticides and artificial fertilizers, so that it is almost no longer suitable for humans. Results of this project are not yet available.
