Masvingo (formerly Fort Victoria , named after Queen Victoria ) is the capital of the province of the same name in the southeast of Zimbabwe and had around 88,000 inhabitants in a census in 2012.
history
The city of Masvingo was founded in 1890, making it the oldest colonial city in Zimbabwe. The old fort from 1891, which was supposed to guard the road to the south, still stands as a monument in the city center.

location
The city is located near the Mutirikwisee National Park and is the terminus of a railway line to Gweru . It has an airport for domestic flights. The ruins of Greater Zimbabwe are about 28 kilometers away .
The stone carvings beyond production for the tourism market are interesting, some of which have already found their way into European art galleries. The jacaranda bloom in September is one of the city's attractions.
