Reservoirs
The Mutirikwi is known because of its reservoir, Lake Mutirikwi 20 km southeast of the city of Masvingo , which is known as the "small Kariba lake ". A dam wall created this lake in 1960 as a retention basin for the irrigation of agricultural plantations such as citrus fruits, pineapples and cotton. Today it has a water surface of 90 km² and is dammed up to become the third largest lake in the country. The “Scenic Drive” leads around the lake. Next to it is an animal protection area with exactly the same number of km², in which the white rhinos have developed splendidly. Numerous other animal species can also be seen there.
The Bengala Dam is also located in the further course of the river.
