Project start

MusicStation started just before the iPhone was launched in the United States on June 29, 2007. In the future, MusicStation should be launched across Europe, Asia and Africa. The cell phone manufacturers involved wanted to deliver cell phones that are already equipped with software for accessing MusicStation.

vision

"We expect to be able to offer MusicStation one hundred million subscribers this year. We believe that by giving consumers the ultimate freedom of unrestricted access to music wherever they are, no matter what phone they buy, MusicStation will be the most outstanding offering today digital music for consumers " said the boss of the MusicStation operator Omnifone, Rob Lewis.

The music companies hoped that MusicStation would help popularize the consumption of music on cell phones.

The offer should be able to be used with numerous Java and Symbian cell phones that are equipped for fast data transfer and with an MP3 player.

Usage fees

For a fee of 2.99 euros per week, users were able to use the offerings of the labels mentioned and other media providers. This price already includes the costs for data transmission.
