Musical encounters Lenzburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lenzburg Musical Encounters ( MBL ) are a music festival that has been taking place annually since 1984 under a different motto in the Swiss municipality of Lenzburg in the canton of Aargau . It is supported and organized by the non-profit association MBL and its voluntary members. Responsible for the annual motto and the selection of the artists is the artistic club management, consisting of regionally as well as Switzerland-wide known musicians.

history

The MBL was founded in 1984 by citizens of the city of Lenzburg interested in culture, initially under the name "Ludi vocales". The “Days of Old Music” in Regensburg gave the impetus.

The crystallization point of the vocal festival's content should be sacred and secular vocal music, including instrumental works, deliberately limited to the chamber choir and renouncing the large romantic sound apparatus. At the same time, early music should radiate into later eras on a stylistic and thematic level up to the present day. Likewise, the cultural environment should be presented, including theater, literature, dance and the visual arts. The name was changed to "Musical Encounters Lenzburg MBL" in 1992.

Content and goals

The focus is on encounters between amateur and professional musicians, between regional and international artists, encounters between different cultural sectors or different musical styles, between old and young or encounters with music at unfamiliar performance locations. The aim is to promote regional culture.

In addition to concerts by international artists, ensembles, instrumentalists and vocalists, the festival with the “sounding zone” also offers amateur musicians and ensembles a platform to present themselves to a circulating audience in the open streets of Lenzburg's old town.

Since it was founded in 1984, the MBL has offered concerts from the fields of classical, early music, new music, jazz and folklore every year and for a week between the end of August and mid-September at various locations in the city, such as in the historic knight's hall of the Lenzburg, in the old community hall or in the classical Burghaldenhaus. The concerts have a different motto every year.

reception

“It seldom happens that a classical music festival is designed for and from the region in the way that the musical encounters do. Here, more or less “local” forces organize original encounter concerts in unusual places, be it in the old town or in the industrial area, in other words, where there is no other music.
