Mustapha Larfaoui

Mustapha Larfaoui (born November 27, 1932 in Algiers ) is an Algerian sports official.

Education and professional life

Mustapha Larfaoui studied Arabic and French and graduated from them. After completing his studies, he worked as director at various Algerian hospitals (Parnet, Constantine , Province of Algiers ).

Relationship to sport

Mustapha Larfaoui was an active water polo player. In 1962 he was a founding member of the Algerian Swimming Association and in 1963 of the Algerian NOK. In 1970 he helped found the African Swimming Association .

From 1962 to 1983 and from 1985 to 1989 Larfaoui was President of the Algerian Swimming Association. Since 1989 he has been honorary president of the association for life. For the Algerian NOK he was Secretary General from 1963 to 1967, Deputy Secretary General from 1967 to 1985, Vice President from 1985 to 1998 and President from 1998 to 2001. He has been honorary president of the NOK since 2013. From 1970 to 1974 he was also Vice President of the African Swimming Association, from 1974 to 2012 its President and since 2012 Honorary President.

In the international swimming federation FINA he worked from 1976 to 1988 as vice-president and from 1988 to 2009 as president. He has been honorary president of FINA since 2009.

Activities within the IOC

Mustapha Larfaoui was a member of the IOC from 1995 to 2009. He has been an honorary member since 2009. He worked in various IOC commissions, including from 1991 to 1992 in the Apartheid and Olympia Commission, from 1991 to 1999 in the Olympic Movement Commission, from 1995 to 2000 in the coordination commission for the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, from 1996 to 2002 in of the Women's Sports Commission, 2003 to 2010 in the Marketing Commission.

Awards

In 1988 Mustapha Larfoui was awarded the Olympic Order . The Anti-Apartheid Commission of the United Nations awarded him a diploma. The FINA honored him with a gold and a silver pin and an honorary award.
