The Mutoid Waste Company was a performance arts group founded in 1984 by Joe Rush in London . It had its origins in Frestonia , a not very serious secession movement in Notting Hill in the 1970s, and was inspired, among other things, by the " Mad Max " films. The artists converted old cars into vehicles and sculptures that looked like the end of the world and then performed them with fire-eaters and artists at festivals and at self-organized spectacles. After repeated trouble with the authorities and subsequent raids by the police, the group moved to Berlin in 1989 to the former Görlitz train station, which was then still fallow . Numerous performances took place there, culminating in the installation of the sculptures "Käfer Man" and "Friedensvogel" on the old railway bridge over the Landwehr Canal on Görlitzer Ufer: "Käfer Man", which is located on the old railway tracks directly in front of the Wall in GDR - Area was pushed back to the west side by the border troops at night, and at the same time the rails were dismantled to prevent his return.

The company later moved on to Italy to disperse in the 1990s. To this day, however, there have been repeated appearances, including in Glastonbury in 2011 with the Cordy House Family .
